Starlink Satellite Internet

Starlink geostationary satellites provide Internet services via geostationary satellites. Starlink operates in around 60 countries. The process of starting their work has also started in Bangladesh, India etc. From 2019, Elon Musk’s SpaceX started launching Starlink satellites. More than 4,500 satellites have already been placed in orbit. Initially, 12,000 satellites were said, but currently 42,000 satellites have been planned to be placed in orbit. Basically these satellites will provide internet through antenna.

Recently Starlink has started the process of launching their services in Bangladesh. We all have endless questions about Starlink. How much does it cost to get Star Link Satellite Internet – this is also the most frequently asked question In this post you will get answers to all your Star Link related questions.

How StarLink Works

It will be easier for us to know how Starlink works from a customer’s perspective. Starlink will supply internet through Starlink kit. The kit will contain Starlink satellite dish, WiFi router, power supply, cable and base. Starlink Base will be used in ground level installations or quick-start setups to test internet connections.

But if you want to setup it properly then it is better to buy permanent mount. The Starlink dish is self-oriented and connects very quickly if the sky conditions are right. After all hardware is properly setup, connect to Starlink network and manage service using Starlink app. SpaceS provides this service through Starlink’s low-orbit Earth satellites, which are in 550 km orbit. Many of Starlink’s satellites are close to the ground, providing very low latency services.

StarLink internet speed

Average Starlink speeds in the US hit 62 Mbps in the second quarter of 2022, according to Okla. It is enough for one or two people to simultaneously stream videos or download games or just use the internet. After a year this speed is said to have hit 90 MPS. It is also known that as Starlink’s customers are increasing, its performance is under pressure. In Europe, Oceania, North America and South America, almost all countries in Okla’s survey have noticed a decrease in speed.

Although Elon Musk had said that StarLink would hit 300 MPs speeds by 2021, that hope remains to be seen. In general, Starlink’s internet service is reliable, but if we consider other factors including cost, the question is how much more cost-effective this service is than traditional broadband internet.

StarLink Internet Costs

Since the news of the process of Star Link service coming in 2023 in Bangladesh, there has been a lot of talk about it. Starlink has already started charging a $99 fee for pre-ordering, which is naturally a little curious for people in the country like us. Starlink claims that its satellites will be a game-changer in bringing high-speed broadband connectivity to remote and underserved areas, where access is limited.

To use Starlink Internet, the monthly fee will be 99 dollars or about 11 thousand taka. Again, setting up Starlink will cost about 500 to 600 dollars i.e. more than 50 or 60 thousand rupees. Also if Star Link connection is taken for business use then monthly internet cost up to 2500 dollars has to be added. It is better to say that for general use, to get internet service of 5000 Mbps speed, you have to calculate 500 dollars per month. Starlink costs too much for any usage purpose.

The mentioned Starlink monthly fees are in line with the global fees. The monthly fee of Starlink in Bangladesh has not been officially announced yet. If we think from the point of view of our country, the fee of 10,000 taka per month for broadband internet is too much. At present, broadband internet or WiFi line is available in rural areas for between 500 and 1000 rupees. Considering that, there are hardly any customers who can get internet connection for 10,000 taka per month.

For Starlink to be successful in Bangladesh, they must reduce their monthly fees significantly. On the other hand, there is no way to reduce the fee of Starlink Kit. It remains to be seen how successful Starlink can be in Bangladesh. But one thing should be kept in mind, Starlink can go to remote areas where normal broadband cannot go there. So Starlink will definitely have a different demand.
